A woman was taken into federal custody on Tuesday after informing the Secret Service that she would “blow away” First Lady Michelle Obama as the Obamas planned a vacation in Hawaii.
Kristy Lee Roshia was arrested on Saturday after being charged with assault against a Federal agent and planning a threat on a family member of the President. The arrest was made two miles from the Kailua home where the President and his family planned to spend their holidays this week.
A Secret Service affidavit states that Roshia made a call to the Boston office of the Secret Service last month and spoke to the receptionist saying, “I will kill Michelle Obama” and “I will kill Marines”. The document also states that Roshia, during the same phone call, would “blow away” the First Lady.
The affidavit mentions that the 35-year-old has a history of leaving messages, love letters, poems and photos of herself to the Secret Service. In 2004, she was quoted as telling the agency that “although her mission is to assassinate the president, she has no desire to hurt him”.
The document indicates that Roshia admitted to threatening Michelle Obama before she was arrested by Secret Service agents. It also said that she knew where the Obamas would stay in Hawaii and that her reason for travelling to the state was “to protect Obama”.
Roshia was also charged of assaulting a Secret Service agent after striking his arms and face when she was being arrested. She is currently being held without bail and will face a detention hearing on Wednesday.
