Being the President of the United States is a very demanding job. Not only would the President have to run the most powerful country on Earth, he also needs to give some pep talk from time to time.
In a meeting with Senate Democrats on Tuesday, President Barack Obama had to spend a considerable amount of time in inspiring his party mates. The meeting was about the health care reform bill, which is right on the verge of being passed.
The meeting could be considered as something of great importance to the American public because health reform has been due for several years now. Obama underlined this importance by describing the bill as a great step forward. It is, according to the president, an excellent opportunity to equip the people with much-needed assistance.
Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Senator Kent Conrad from North Dakota were one in saying that the President considers the bill a symbol of the reason why anybody goes to Washington at all. That reason is to contribute to the country by making a difference, to be a springboard for positive changes.
All of these exalted words of the president became warranted right after comments and suggestions were welcomed by the chief executive. The moment they were allowed direct questions and comments, they poured forth their grumblings.
The Senate Democrats spewed out their frustration about what some perceived as the lack or even non-existence of the public option, and that getting the bill through Congress is actually not fun. Upon hearing the latter comment, the President ended the meeting with a smile and an advice to the legislators.
He urged them to have some fun.
